Im running windows xp pro with a 200gb maxtor diamond max 10 serial ata hard drive.
Over the weekend i encountered the BSOD with the error message Kernel Stack Inpage Error with lots of numbers after it :)
On reebooting xp couldnt find a HD and no bios installed and was searcing for ide drives etc and would not load.
I did a little googling and concluded that my problem was related to the drives power supply cabling. So i disconnected the power cable to the drive reconnected it and it booted no probems for a while then the same thing happened again BSOD (Same message) etc .
So yesterday i changed the power cable to the HD and it worked again, I left it on over night and it crashed :( but no BSOD this time just a failure to find HD on bootup.
Removing and replacing the power connector to the HD enables it to boot up again but unfortunately i think its just a matter of time before i will get the same problems again.
Anybody have any ideas?

Hi Kevin, can you have a look here :
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315266 (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315266)
And check which code your lots of numbers refer to :)

Hi Sandra, I have checked that page and didnt find the info relevant as on the both occasions i encountered the BSOD, the "Lots of numbers" were different on both occasions and there do not appear to be any bad sectors on the drive although i am unable to check with maxblast or power max utility and there is nothing in the system log that indicates an error!
I will check the numbers that it threw at me again just to make sure i have not missed anything. I have checked the RAM and it appears ok but perhaps i had better leave the ram test run for longer.
What does work is disconnecting the HD power cable and reconnecting it and then all is fine but it appears to be unstable and i cant figure out why or how ???

How long has it been running prior to this problem and which mobo have you got ?
-
Duff PSU at a Guess :-\
-
Its been running for about 2 months now I have an MSI k7n2 Delta mobo the psu was changed to a 400w about 2 months ago as well
-
New components are at their most vulnerable when new..thats the prime time for them to break up IMHO.
-
Ah well i bought the whole system from new new about 2 months ago its allready had a new cpu, a new psu and a new graphics card in that time. I am loathe to take it back again just to be told that its working fine here and then get it back for it to break down again. Is there any way i can test the psu for a fault?
-
I found this on the MSI site :
Question
K7N2 (MS-6570) failed to boot after loading high performance default
Solution
Please do the following:
1. clear CMOS
2. load high performance default
3. go to advanced chipset setup (dont need to change anything)
4. press ESC
5. Save & exit
Nvidia has added some modules on the BIOS for memory performance & stability. However, the modules need to load both high performance default & go to advanced chipset setup as mentioned in order for the modules to finished initializing
It may be worth a try :)

Thanks Sandra I will try that tonight. Any ideas how i can test my psu for a fault?
-
Not really Kevin, usually its by substitution unless you know someone whos into electronics and could test it underload :(
-
Well things have moved on and i cant now boot the pc :(
I am getting the following...
No Array is defined ....
Press cntrl + f to enter fast build utility or escape to continue boot
then it goes to
Nvidia boot agent PXE-E61 - media test failure check cable
then
Disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter
???
Any ideas
-
Its sounding like a mobo fault, as its not recognising the boot drive by the sound of it :(
-
Well I've just been out to buy a new PSU see how that goes first. Just hope i will be able to make sense of all these cables :)
-
Well I changed the psu and no difference still exactly the same :(
It will have to go back again :brick:
This computer has spent more time being repaired than it has with me :curse:
Anyway thanks for your help.

Sometimes I cant see the wood for the trees ! :-[
Problem was solved by re-creating the disc array. It had somehow become corrupted.
Everything working again now :)
-
Glad to hear you sorted it, are you running raid as I have only come across "array" in connection with raid ???
-
Yes Sandra I am running Serial ATA raid with a striped array with 1 drive. Am thiniking of adding another one if it prooves to be stable. :-\
I had another BSOD with the same meesage (kernel stack inpage error) shortly after posting that all was ok last night I also heard some clicking coming, i think from the HD so i think it must be on its way out. ???
Anyway I'm taking it back today (Again)! :believe:
Will let you know what happens
-
Well just to say :thanks: to everyone for their help with my little issue :). I have eventually had my pc back today with a new motherboard and new RAM. Have been unable to establish exactly what was going on in there but its all change again.
I've now got an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe MOBO that talks to me when i switch the pc on ::) . I hope it also tells me exactly whats wrong if it decides to play up again ;D
