Hello!
I have a home network with five computers. I have a linksys wireless router. I am attempting to connect my laptop to the network. The laptop can access the internet but only shows itself as a member of mshome. All the other computers have the same workgroup. From all the other computers the laptop shows in my network places but when you try to open it you get the message \\laptop is not accessible. you may not have permission etc etc. I have no firewalls in place and the entire content of the laptop is shared with everyone having full access. Any ideas? Thanks ::)

Aaron do you have SP2 Installed?
-
No, none of the computers have it installed. I haven't even updated to sp1.

Has the laptop every been accessable on the network or is this the first attempt at setting it up ???
-
This is the first time I have tried to connect it to a network, yes.

Have a look in the properties of the LAN on each one and go to the advanced tab.
Make sure that the Internet Connection Sharing firewall isnt enabled :)

Hi Sandra,
None of the computers have the firewall on.

If the laptop is showing in the wired pcs but the laptop cant see the others its got to be a firewall/permission problem surely ???
How about the router ?
Does that have anything that would block the LAN in one direction ???

Ok, I've managed to get the laptop to see the other computers. Some work, some however still say that I do not have permission or the resource is unavailable. Is there a way I can tell the computers that still aren't working to allow the laptop to connect to them irrespective of other restrictions that have been placed on them in the past?
