Title: Spam Spam and more Spam...
Post by: DJ on October 30, 2004, 19:00
Hi All

I am currently getting around 30-40 spam emails a day. I have spampal installed and these do get filtered to my deleted items box (in outlook express) and then get deleted every day.

But how do I reduce the number of spam I get - can it be done ?

Is there better waays to stop spam rather than SpamPal?

I do not open any spam and don't reply to any either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

DJ

I always used to use MailWasher until my ISP decided to take matters into its own hands and deploy Yahoo's excellent spam filter.  Not much gets past that one!  With MailWasher you will still see all the spam on your server but most of it will be marked as such and you can train the filter to detect most of the rest.  All of it can then  be deleted in one go.

Of course you could always get yourself a free Yahoo address instead!

Thanks Clive,

I have used mailwasher in the past - but found it annoying as I had more than one email account to "wash" and you had to run it before opening your email client.

I was looking for another application that sits in the system tray and gets on with its job quietly - but maybe I'll try mailwasher for a bit.

Do you recommend bouncing the spam using mailwasher? I heard that this just tells the spamers that you have an active address?

I just delete and block or add to mailwashers blacklist DJ, dont bounce because as you say it confirms they have a valid email address  :(

There's a similar tool to Mail Washer, which allows the use of multiple e-mails accounts, DJ.  It's free, and you can download it from www.poptray.org.
