Title: Kodak dx3500 digital camera
Post by: Lona on December 02, 2004, 18:35
I have a Kodak digital camera with dock which transfers pictures automatically to PC.

When I upgraded to XP my software no longer worked.  I downloaded the update for XP. It installed ok but PC won't recognise camera.

I have been trying to solve this problem since 2pm today and I am back at square one.

How I hate XP :horror:

I use a Fujifilm digital camera Lona and to the best of my knowledge I don't have any dedicated drivers or software for it.  When I plug it in and switch on I get a Windows XP screen saying "removable disk drive F" and a set of options asking me what I want to do with the photos.  I'm pretty certain that this is all built in to XP and it's ridiculously easy to use.

I think that's a frequent problem with XP and the digital cameras softwares, Lona.

Have you tried to, just uninstall the camera sofrtware, and then directly you plug it in (without its' software, of course)?

I've tried that Joudi but it still didn't find camera. I will uninstall the software one more time and try it again. :)

Try it in a different USB, Lona.   :)

Tried everything.  Uninstalled the software and unplugged camera, rebooted and plugged in the camera. No window popped up as Clive mentioned.

This camera is one of these docking ones and you need the software to make it work. I have been in Kodak's site and the software I downloaded was for XP service pack 1, they don't seem to have service pack 2.

I wish Tony would come on so as I can tell the *hit this operating system is causing me.  I never had as much hassle with WinME. :(

My camera lead plugs into a USB port Lona.  I also use the same lead with another Fujifilm camera and that works just the same.  No drivers, no software no nothing.  XP somehow just makes it work.

As above.  I have never used the Kodak software, or the docking unit.  I just plug the camera into a USB port, and load the pictures into Windows Picture Viewer.

Until they bring a fix out for SP2 Lona why dont you just upload to your ME pc and then transfer the photos over your LAN to your XP pc  :)

I thought of that Sandra, but Niall has enough cables and not much room. If I'm stumped I will have to do that but you would have thought the camera would have worked on this machine.

That's what I downloaded and it installs ok but won't find camera when I plug it in. ???

Sorry Lona for my too simple (maybe stupid) question. But I ask it, just in case:

When you plug it in, do you switch your camera on?

Seems to me as if there's no power in the camera. maybe worthy to try that side of the matter.

Sorry again...

It wasnt the enabled bit it was this bit Lona :

Click Properties. The USB Root Hub Properties window displays.
Click the Power Management tab.
Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power box. (This will prevent a power loss to the USB port.)

:-[ I am so embarressed to admit it was the usb cable at the camera end that wasn't properly in that was causing pc not to find it.
