I have recently had to do a system restore and now I am unable to access the internet through my BT voyager 105. I seem unable to re-install or uninstall it.
Error message is
Can't get registry value: key=software\globespanvirata\adsl value=driver
type
any suggestions ?
many thanks

Hi Raggaroth and :welcome:
I have just downloaded and read the manual for your modem.
It states that with the modem still connected you should uninstall it from the Start/Programs list and find the Voyager section and click uninstall from there.
Do not remove the connection until it tells you to do so then reboot your pc.
If you have done that and its still showing then have you tried uninstalling it from inside the device manager and from Add/Remove in control panel :?:

Are you on ME or XP, just in case its relevant ?

Found a driver for globespanvirata adsl usb modem here :
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=116948
One XP user says great, one says so so, may be worth a try as it should add to the registry and possibly fix what needs fixing.
You can always roll back the driver if it doesnt improve anything.
You will have to register before you can download, if you arent already a member but its a good site and wont spam you :)

Thanks Sandra,
again this didn't work, but after much tinkering I got it working. The problem was the system recovery had caused a registry fault on the new current user.
Running a registry cleaner to clean out the current user then going back to the old user file manually and running the installation from there cleared the error.
At least thats what I think I did, I was running round in circles a bit..
Cheers for your Help
Raggaroth ( a wee bit dizzy)....

Glad you managed to sort it :)

ARGH!
Nope, didn't work, I already had CCleaner since my desktop was hijacked a while back (not that I have fully cleared up THAT mess)..
Any other ideas? It's really annoying me 'cos I wont get a new ISP until i kno it works

A bit of a wild shot but have you got multiple users ?
Maybe if you create a new user with full admin permissions and see if you can install the modem on that.
That way we would know that the modem was actually ok.

Hi Sandra,
How would I go about doing that?
Mind you the modem should be fine, up until 2 weeks ago I was using it with my 2mbit connection, and it still had both lights on until i decided to uninstall it. I have contacted the BT Voyager email people but their standard reply was anything but helpful, they just ended up trying to flog me a wireless reuter...
Any idea who else I could ask? Short of reformatting (which I'm considering tbh since it would clear up a lot of my problems...) I don't know what to do...

Go into Control Panel then User Accounts then click on Create New Account and folow the steps from there.
Make sure to assign that account Admin status then log off and back on as that user and see if it will install ok this time.
