MSN Messenger is the most used instant messaging service in the UK, with a sixth of the UK population using the service.
According to MSN, from November 2003 to 2006 the number of users increased by 29 per cent, rising from 7.6 million to 10 million in two years.
The company revealed that UK MSN Messenger users send more than 3.7 billion instant messages every year, with the average user having 51 buddies in their contact list.
Cristiano Ventura, MSN Messenger product manager, said: ?The growth of MSN Messenger really is a phenomenon. It is amazing that in such a short space of time a sixth of the UK's population now use the service to keep in contact with friends, family and work colleagues, no matter where they are in the world.?
