heya! can anyone help me with this?
I've just bought a data transfer cable for my phone, the model is NEC e313, and the cable is called a 616, but it works for this phone as well.
basically, i'm pretty sure i've installed everything right, following all instructions and with extra help from other sites etc
but
when i go into the file transfer centre, and try to getpictures etc from the phone to the computer, it comes up with an error message that says "Handset not detected. Please check connection"
I have checked all connections, reinstalled things, done everything you would normally do, and asked all round, but nobody can figure out the problem :?
so if anyone can help you will be eternally loved :P hehe
and you may have an invisible gold star :D *waves the star around enticingly*
thanks! :D:D Vicky x x x x x x

Hi Vicky and :welcome:
I assume that youre connecting it to a USB port ?
Have you tried the cable in different ports and have you any other things that are USB that work ok in that or the other ports ?
-
hey sandra! thanks :D
yeah, i just tried it in a port that's been working :? nothing though :(
-
Have you installed the correct drivers dudebabe? I understand that eBay sold a load of these phones with dud drivers.
-
I think that Simon is the mobile phone expert, mine and Clives are so old that they dont even have the option to connect to our pcs
-
i have used that phone, i think.. it is the big Three one isnt it? if so..make sure on the handset that you have turned on the option to send data.. i cant remember where it is now, something like connectivity.
-
mine and Clives are so old that they dont even have the option to connect to our pcs
I'm not allowed to take mine out at night since it's construed as an offensive weapon.
-
I'm having trouble myself, with a bluetooth dongle I bought off eBay. They have replaced it once, and I was going to try it this evening, but have run out of time now.
Hi Vicky, it does sound as though the phone isn't supported by the software, although I'm not familiar with those models. I had almost the same issue with one of my Nokias. Have you tried what Sam suggested above? If you are certain you have done everything as per the instructions, I think your best bet is to contact the eBay seller.
-
aww ok guys, thanks a lot :) must be faulty drivers then
gold stars for all :D
-
no, probably not faulty drivers. (it could be but I doubt it is, most likely it is the wrong drivers)
I'd suggest you check every option on the phone... cause you must enable the usb connectivity before you even attempt communication with the computer, otherwise it just won't work.
Also which drivers are you using, cause these can be hard to get your hands on.
-
i assume you are using windows, which version?
-
i'm on windows xp
ooh i don't remember doing anything about enabling usb connectivity :? how do you do that?
-
It will be in your phone menus somewhere, Vicky - In most phones, there are Connectivity options, so I would assume yours has something similar. :)
-
ah I think I know what you mean, go into menu, external connection, USB, Handset memory and it will say 'waiting for connection'
yeah I've had this on all the time :? still doesn't work :( I'm stumped!
-
I'm stabbing in the dark here, but have you definitely got the correct drivers for your operating system? Assuming you are using XP, I came across this link to drivers for the E313:-
http://www.nec.se/upload/USB_Drivrutin_e313.zip
Now, if you try that, be aware that it's at your own risk, as I have no idea whether it will work, not having your brand of phone to test it on. Just one other thing, you said when you try to use the file transfer centre, it said the handset is not detected - have you tried it, simultaneously doing the "menu, external connection, USB, Handset memory and it will say 'waiting for connection'", thing?
-
umm odd, ill have a think and if i come up with any other useful thughts ill get back to you asap
-
yeah I have tried that :?
thanks for those drivers, i'll try them now :)
edit: have just unzipped those drivers, only seems to be for windows 98 and 2000 :? an uninstall file, and a manual in spanish lol :?
-
Oh bugger! Sorry, I did say they were untested! :blush2: Here's one I found on www.driverguide.com - this one is in English, and it seems that the Windows 2000 drivers also work on XP. To save you the trouble of bypassing the registation process, I have downloaded the file for you, and uploaded it to my webspace, where you can find it here (http://www.simonreeve.dsl.pipex.com/e313-usb-driver-w98-2k-XP.zip). If that doesn't work, then I'm as stumped as you. :|
-
thanks a lot, you're the best :D just one more question- which file do i click on when i've extracted them? so far i've opened the 'windows 2000' folder and extracted them :?
sorry I probably sound so thick, i'm not too good with computers though
-
It doesn't work quite like that. You plug in your hardware (the USB device), then it will ask something like do you want to install your own drivers from a specified location. Click yes, then browse to where you have extracted the files, then click on the Win2000 folder and click OK. Hopefully, the drivers will then install.
-
ah yeah i get it now :) ta
-
I've just uninstalled it and tried it with those new drivers but nothing new :(:? still says the same thing
-
Sorry Vicky, I'm as stumped as you, especially without the hardware to try it on myself. :(
-
that's ok, thanks sooo much for your help :D:D *gold stars all round!*
sorry i have a gold star-related obsession  hehe

You could try Mobile Review Forums (http://forum2.mobile-review.com//). They can be a bit snotty if you don't use the search facility before asking your question, but they have helped me out a couple of times. Let us know if you manage to get it working! :)

thanks, will do :D
