Title: Surf the net without a connection
Post by: Clive on April 10, 2006, 12:25
A revolutionary product means web users will soon be able to download large chunks of the internet to their hard drives and then surf the web when they aren't connected to the net.

The new free-to-download application from Webaroo lets you select you favourite sites or groups of sites, such as news, and caches them.

Using the Webaroo application, people can search for information and surf the web as if they were connected. The only limitation is that, of course, it isn't possible to send information to the sites, for example if you want to reply to an email.

President of Webaroo Bradley Husick believes the technology will change the way we use the internet, and says now people will be able to use their laptops to surf the web while on a plane or in places with no Wi-Fi connection or where Wi-Fi is too pricey.

He said downloading 75,000 pages will use around 1.2GB of disk space.

The ones I've used in the dim and distant past were worse than useless as they would record pages but not sub-pages.  Maybe this one is better.   :)

HTTrack saves sub pages Clive.

Once you have downloaded even the whole website if you wanted to, it opens on your pc as if you were on the actual site  :)

That sounds good Sandra.  The idea years ago was to save money because it was a national rate call to get internet access.  But it would still be useful if you were stuck in hospital for a few days.
