Title: Goodbye, Opera.
Post by: chorleydave on June 15, 2006, 22:45
It is with great sadness that I have to announce that after seven years as my preferred web browser / email client, Opera has been consigned to the recycle bin.  (Well, I've removed it, but you know what I mean.)

Seven years ago, Opera was a simple, lightweight, basic browser without any bells and whistles that did a job.  Over the years it has been "improved" to such an extent that it no longer looks anything like the familiar piece of software that I knew and loved.  The final straw came yesterday when I downloaded the preview of the latest version and, although it was still under 5MB, it was full of so many useless gimmicks that it might well have come straight from Microshaft.  As I always say:

"Newer is rarely better".

Therefore, I have made Firefox my default browser and have downloaded Thunderbird as my mail client.  Before anyone replies and starts to tell me what extensions I should download, thanks, but no thanks.  I want something that displays web pages properly, not something that will do the ironing and make the bed for me while I'm having a shave.
