Oh a magnificent choice MB.  I notice that you are an Orbison fan - have you seen the Black and White Night DVD?

I must add Cathy's Clown by the Everley Brothers and "I just don't know what to do with myself" by Dusty.  Nancy's "Boots" was a particular favourite of mine as was her father's "Strangers in the night".

Black and White Night, must keep an eye out for it. I suppose I could have added "Pretty Woman" and "Crying", he has an amazing voice.
Yes, Cathy's Clown is a favourite of mine as well, but I'm not so keen on Frank though, I did like his movies.

Both those Orbison songs are on that DVD.  It's a live concert which features all his big hits accompanied by Bruce Springsteen, KD Lang, Jackson Brown, Elvis Costello and others.  The finale is an Orbison/Springsteen guitar duel leading into Pretty Woman.

gosh I am really not sure... I think only Simon might have a clue about most of mine... I did come up with my ablums of the year list for my blog (I guess Simon might be interested....) ... [here] (http://www.krioma.net/blog/2006/12/albums_of_2006.php)

Blimey!  So you actually did go out and buy B&W Night then Clive.  Brill, innit!  My personal favourite is 'Comedians'.  As well as being one hell of a song, it really shows what an incredible vocal range Roy Orbison had.

I must say it's heartwarming to see choices such as The Animals - Sky Pilot, and Gary US Bonds here.  While anything by Van Morrison or Ry Cooder is guaranteed to get my attention too.  If I had enough time, I could easily fill several pages with tunes that make me go wet at the knees, but in the interests of brevity here's just a dozen of them.

Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover
Santana - Song of the Wind
Foo Fighters - All My Life
Fiona Apple - A Mistake
Joni Mitchell - Overture/Cotton Avenue
Doobie Bros/Michael MacDonald - Losin' End
Van Morrison - Madam George
The Tubes - Don't Want To Wait Anymore
Walker Brothers - Archangel
Jackson Browne - Sky Blue And Black
Rival Schools - Used For Glue
Waren Zevon - Carmelita

Yes, I have to say that if I could only have one music DVD then it would have to be Black & White night.  It's by far my favourite.  Didn't realise that anyone else had even heard of Gary US Bonds!  I was a big fan of his and have most of his early 45's on the Top Rank and Stateside labels.

I've got Gary US Bonds 'Dedication' on cassette which I still play from time to time, although I really ought to fork out for the CD soon.

As for the wax cylinder recordings that you recommended, they looked at me a bit strangely when I asked for them in the Virgin Megastore just now.  What a rubbish shop that is.  They haven't even heard of a One Pod either.   :-\

Even I haven't a clue about most of them!  There are some I recognise, and it will be interesting to check out some of the others, but I'm still well into The Black Parade at the moment, and nothing yet I have heard since has touched it, playability wise.

I haven't heard Dedication - that was after Bruce Springsteen re-discovered him in the early '80's.  Bonds is an acquired taste for certain.  :D

Spot on, Lona!  I take back everything I said about anyone north of the border knowing bugger-all about good taste.   ;)

I haven't heard Dedication - that was after Bruce Springsteen re-discovered him in the early '80's.  Bonds is an acquired taste for certain.  :D
You haven't?   :o

I actually bought it because of his cover of the Jackson Browne track 'The Pretender', but was soon won over by the quality of the whole thing.  Springsteen actually didn't do a bad job with it if the truth were known.  I've now ordered a used copy of the 2CD (remastered) compilation of 'Dedication' and follow-up 'On the Line' from here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dedication-Line-Remastered-Gary-Bonds/dp/B0001Z2S3G/sr=8-1/qid=1168386352/ref=pd_ka_1/026-8030198-2103666?ie=UTF8&s=music),  so should soon be able to stick the second album in my ear as well.

Purely an observation, but what a coincidence that both Springsteen and Browne also feature on 'Black & White Night'.  Maybe it's an omen, or something...

I have just watched a doumentary I recorded last night on BBC 4 called Hotel California from the Byrds to the Eagles.

It covered the music scene in Los Angeles from the mid 60s to the mid 70s.

Artists featured included Carole King, Joni Mitchel, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Jackson Browne, The Byrds and the Eagles and many more.

The programme is repeated this evening (wednesday 10th) on BBC 4 at 1am to 2-30am (maybe thats Thursday 11th morning if we are being really pedantic)
Worth staying up for if you dont have to get up to go to work or set your VCR, DVD or PC to record it  :)

Also on BBC 4 from 8-30 to 9pm definately this evening (wednesday 10th) In Concert : a 1970 concert by Crosby and Nash, no mention of Stills or Young but that may be a misprint in my TV mag.

I would strongly urge anyone thinking of installing Limewire to read this security advisory (http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/pest/Pest.aspx?id=453088059) - if only the first paragraph - before doing so.

for music, you can get most on torrents and also i would suggest using soulseek, no virus problems like limewire

Yes, I must try soulseek.  You do have to be careful with Limewire, as there are lots of viruses about, but you can usually tell from the file size whether it's genuine.

Well, I have, and it seems more like a chatroom.  Not sure if it's my sort of thing.  I don't like talking to people at the best of times!  :o:

no you don't have to chat - I think thats just like an extra thing. But they still don't have "If I had words" Well one person does and 130 ppl are waiting for it so I assume he's not on there much.

yes soulseek is pretty good, and no u dont have to chat, i use it to keep in touch with a few of my mates though, beats having to have two programs running
