Title: Woolworths stocks bargain software
Post by: Clive on April 17, 2007, 14:00
High street retailer Woolworths has announced that it is following Tesco's lead and stocking own-brand software.

The Woolworths Home Pack will retail for £17 and includes word processing, spreadsheet and database management software.

It is designed by software company Formjet Solutions and is compatible with popular Microsoft Programs like Word, Excel and Access.

Woolworths software buyer Gerry Berkley said: ?This is not cutting-edge computer technology. This is a simple, easy to use software package that will do everything that most home PC users need.

?The majority of people use only a fraction of the functionality of market leading products, so why pay such a high price, when you can buy our product and get what you want for less money?"

Woolworths predicted that its software range, which also includes an Internet Security package for £25 and an image-editing suite for £10, will change the face of the software market.

?Retailers like us are now opening up the software market to everyone by selling products at affordable prices.?

I think this is good news for the home computer operator. I dont know whether I would use either Tesco or Woolworths brand, but it might make the other software companies reduce some of their very high prices.

Too little too late. They should've been making generic softwares a decade ago. Now anyone with the internet who's really looking to save money can use the online apps for doing office work.

or use open source free software... if you are after a free office solution then use open office - http://www.openoffice.org/  - trust me it will be better than the crap from tesco or woolworths.
