Title: Wanting the fastest IDE hard drive?
Post by: bat69 on March 01, 2003, 19:39
Well if you are upgrading and want to improve your system performance, have a look (http://www.hardwarezoom.com/viewreview.jsp?ReviewID=132&PageNo=1&CategoryName=Storage&CategoryID=50&Path=3) at this article. They tested the following drives in 120Gb formats
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9
Western Digital 1200JB
Seagate Barracuda ATA V
IBM 180GXP
IBM 120GXP

Thankfully for me .. the one I've just taken delivery of, socored well .. and was recommended due to its 8Mb of cache  8)

b******t, there is no point going for what u recommend for one simple reason, it is a was of money, when cheaper is better, you should go for it, but it is rich [removed] like you that have money to put into s**t like that that influence the rest who don't have the money

Well I'm not rich, far from it. But for what I want, I need a fast PC, with fast HD ... if I was rich I'd be using SCSI which is really fast

Cheaper is only better if you don't need performance, everything has its place. Cheapest is not always best tho. You will note the title of the thread ... its got nothing to do with recommending the "most affordable" or "best value" ... purely fastest ... and I put it here for people's information.

I don't know what you called me, but swearing is not permitted here, sorry :)

I am NOT recommending anything OK ... all I have done is post information that MAY be relevant to someone.

A fast hard drive DOES have a goal .. as if your data is being swapped to and from the drive a lot, as in the case of video, music etc, then speed of the drive, transfer rates, access times etc become important.

Few people want to go to SCSI, and speeds are now approaching SCSI standards with IDE anyway
