For some time I've been thinking about upgrading my graphics card instead of relying on the chip in my motherboard. Today, the sound from the mobo stopped. I'm still investigating the cause but it looks like the chip's gone, despite what Win XP says ::) .
Is it possible to acquire a decent graphics card which incorporates sound, or are separates a better option? I don't need anything too sophisticated, just stereo desktop speakers and graphics that are suitable for most television broadcasts.

I don't think I've ever seen a combined one, Gill. :dunno:
P.S. You have a PM.

I hate to say this, but are you sure it isn't accidentally muted? I've seen it happen before. That's the only reason I asked.
You can test the onboard sound chip by going and downloading knoppix. If you don't get sound with it either linux doesn't support your sound driver (unlikely) or your probably right about the sound chip biting the dust.
