Title: Windows XP
Post by: dcourtneym on September 05, 2007, 18:26
I may have to buy a new computer in the near future and I am wondering if it would be possible to transfer all my data and O/S to a portable hard drive, format the hard drive on the new computer. I am used to XP and some of my peripherals aren't suitable for Vista.
I am not skilled enough to use Linux.
Any comments welcome.

You can still buy machines with XP pre-installed.  Dell do them due to consumer pressure.  I don't think you can just transfer lock stock and barrel like you suggested.  You can certainly use that method for transferring data, but most of your programs would need to be reinstalled on the new machine.
