Hi David, and  :welcome:

If I recall correctly, it's been less than 10 days since you migrated, hasn't it?  You may be likely to experience slowish speeds or instability during this initial training period.

Ideally, you need to do a speed test at http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301/, but you may need a bit of patience to get it to work, as it's notoriously fickle, and don't worry too much about whatever error messages you get, as most of them mean "I'm busy, but I don't want to admit it".

Alternatively, you could try http://speedtest.net/, but none of these online testers are all that reliable.

I'll get Rik to pop over here when he's next about, as he's probably the best one to help with IDNet related questions.  :)

Thanks Simon, the BT one wont recognize my phone line and the speedtest net is wildly out (by a massive margin) some of the tests give me a reading of 10 m but thinkbroadband has to date been the more accurate.will keep my eye on things,I posted this on idnetters as well,

I only got a little concerned up to tonight its been pretty good then suddenly around 7 it began to slow down and just been monitoring it so got a little concerned.

Thanks again Simon. Have a nice Easter

You too, David - you deserve it!   ;)

Oh, I forgot, the speedtester at Think Broadband is supposed to be quite reliable:

Your migration was 'irregular' to say the least, David.  I'm not sure if you were on a MAX service before, but if not, the 10 day training period definitely applies.  :)  Your best plan is probably to give it until Tuesday, then have a chat with IDNet if it's still unstable, as they may be able to boot BT along for you.  ;)

I can't say that I really understand the process, David, or whether it will actually make any difference.  Presumably, when you were using Titscali, they were still using the actual physical BT line to provide their service - or were they?   :dunno:  I'm sure someone will explain, and one day, I'll get it!  ;D

I'm :dunno: not sure to be honest I think Tiscali put some of their equipment in the exchange but the line remains the property of bt I'm not sure I think they lease the line from bt,all I know is that they can have this guy back then I will know who to call if I have a problem and I wont have to try and make myself understood by some poor soul halfway around the world who is doing his best for me.

Hi Badpianoplaer and (https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbestsmileys.com%2Fwelcome%2F18.gif&hash=8d0607a64395d4b2dbcb6f29e8bd73c4bb308de9) to Pc-pals.

I've just taken up BT's offer of option 3 where they state first 3 months for free excluding line rental.  Imagine my surprise when my DD went up from £10.50 to £19.50 overnight.  I phoned up to complain and got India ofcourse who said it was the system and it couldn't be changed.  I then phoned a free phone number which is in the UK who told me I would be refunded with my next bill which is 3 months away.  BT can do what they like and get away with it. Why should my bill run on credit which gives them the use of my money to do with what they wish. :ack:

They do get away with murder, Lona, but unfortunately, if you want a decent, non-LLU ISP, you have to use them, as far as I know.  :(  After David's dramas getting migrated, I expect all he wants is an easy life now!  :)

Join the club Lona!  I haven't sorted mine out yet but it's outrageous!  Never trust any company whose name includes the word "British".

I know I'm heading back to the biggest liberty takers but there is no real option for me as the world of telecommunication is changing on an almost daily basis and I am playing safe and going where I know they wont be selling up tomorrow to someone else its not ideal and I agree with you totally but im not sure we have a great deal of choice when it comes to the crunch, sometimes its better the devil you know, and as Tiscali,in my mind anyway is not that stable by the accounts I have read I can do without the worry of it,without a line there is no broadband so I will take the safe option  :dunno:

The trouble it, BT know there's no other option for some people, so they get away with it.  That said, I can't say I've had any real problems with them, but it's galling to have to say for a BT line, which I wouldn't otherwise use, so that I can have broadband.

Think of it as an Openreach line, Simon. :)
