how wrong but how right is that person. The internet is a useful tool but bloody hell we do rely on it and to think that our students actually learn anything from just sticking them in front of a computer is very short-sighted..

Pre-Google, I always likened the 'net to be let loose in the world's largest library, but without access to the index...

1995 sounds not all that long ago, but not many of us had home PCs then!

Heck, I was on my second!  I'd changed my Dec 386 for an Atlantic 486DX by then.  I think my internet speed was a lot faster back then though.

i believe it was...

.. I actually started off with an atari 65xe... I still have it and reckon if I ever have kids (edit: on girlfriends request - when I have) they need to be able to write a couple of games on there before I let them lose with a more sophisticated machine. Have to get them to respect their computer.

The Archimedes were good machines.  We had one for a few years.

Any of you remember what the prices were back then? I ran across an old newspaper ad when scotty and me ran the shop. Back in 95 a person could buy a packard bell 250mhz 32mb with a 4 gig hd for only $3500 ~ 7000 pound.

I think you have the conversion rate back to front Bob.  Back then $1 would buy £0.6
My first Dec 386 cost nearly £2000 which translates to - oh yeah, $2000 in Rip-Off Britain.  ;D

I think our first proper pc was around that mark.. though I'm not sure as my parents would have gotten it. I think they look back now and realise how good use of cash it was.
