Title: Apple profit rises 36 percent
Post by: Simon on April 23, 2008, 23:30
In spite of the economic slowdown, consumers continued to snatch up Apple's Macintosh computers and helped the company record a 36 percent rise in second-quarter profit, it announced today.

I wonder how many people are choosing Macs rather than buying Vista PCs?

I still think the gap between Windows and Mac is too wide for people to change just like that.  At least there's some degree of compatibility between Windows operating systems.

I'm not convinced Si - people see the mac and go wow... and it does everything that most users would want (apart from decent games but I bet most people don't care) and looks cooler. I think people might have been put off buying a new windows pc with all the bad publicity vista has gotten. That plays straight into "reliable" apples hands. Also with the new macs you can easily install XP too...

But if you've been running Windows, what about file compatibility and all that, Sam?  How easy is it to convert from a Windows machine to a Mac, and keep all your existing data?

Data is not a huge problem these days, Simon, the big issue is your investment in software.

Indeed.

no problem, the files are all compatible... but as Rik says some of the software to read them could be an issue.... though I've never had an issue.. I routinely use a combination of mac, windows and linux systems... all fine.

Well I don't think much of Scan's customer service.  It's been at least an hour now, and they haven't bothered to reply!
