AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0 has been released today by AVG Technologies.
The latest version of the popular free anti-virus tool is now available to download from AVG's website.
According to the company, the software is capable of protecting you from viruses and spyware and also provides a security toolbar that helps to make your searches safer.
Paid-for version of version 8.0 of AVG's anti-virus tools have been available since February.
The full versions include LinkScanner technology that will help protect against malware that attempts to infect your PC via compromised websites.
"With the release of AVG Free 8.0, we are underscoring our belief that all computer users, regardless of their computer usage needs, have the right to a safe and worry-free computing experience," said Karel Obluk, chief technology officer at AVG Technologies.

I know it lets MyWebSearch spyware in, as my cousin had both until I installed F-Secure for her. Can't comment on the new version yet, but hopefully it's an improvement.

It's known as 'after' to its friends. ;D :scoot:

Well I have been using AVG 7.5 since the last upgrade.. free version? and as far as I can see it's only free if you have bought the 7.5 full version  unless I have read it all wrong :o:

There is a separate Free version, Terry, but it's just anti-virus, nothing else, as far as I know.

I have just installed on it a pc that I have wiped and reinstalled XP on this evening.
Looks like its definately free and includes a lot more than just the AV that AVG 7.5 free had.
