Title: Annoying Mouse Problem
Post by: Big_Boss on March 17, 2003, 20:52
As the title suggests i have a mouse problem. The problem is with the scroll wheel. When im using it to scroll down, it scrolls a few lines and then goes up one, and then down a few more and so on.

Has anyone has this problem or got any suggestions about how to fix it? Im sure someone has bound to have had it before.

Thanks

Yup, I've had exactly the same problem. However, I didn't solve the problem, my mouse did by breaking and forcing me to replace it :-\

Without knowing what mouse you have etc its difficult to solve the problem, but you are likely to have some software that controls its functions. I'm guessing, but I suspect that you need to adjust the sensitivity of the scroll wheel.

I hope someone can give more positive advice

Try reinstalling or updating the drivers BB and then as Bat suggests look in the mouse properties and set the scroll at the speed/no of lines you want and see if that cures it  :-*

Big_boss your mate Robotochan was here on the weekend with another problem with a Chic mouse.

He eventually solved his problem by hitting the mouse on the desk ::)

I don't know, perhaps these Chic mouses respond to violence  ;D ;D

Do you have any controller software on your PC ... in 'programs' or you may be able to access it through "Control Panel"

If you do, you could try adjusting the sensitivity of the scroll wheel .. change the line rate etc  ... worth a try

I wonder if they just wear out after a while?  I tend to try to keep the bottom of mine clean, especially the sensor, or it starts playing up.  Perhaps there's some dirt in the wheel?

Try looking at this article (http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/mouse/print.shtml) there is a section part of the way down about flickering

Are you using the mouse as PS/2 or USB?

Try blowing hard at it  ;) ;D  lol    well I actually use compressed air in a can with a flexi nozel for those hard to reach places  :o  but I've found that to be a useful piece of kit for both musical instruments, amplifiers and computers, so I tend to have it handy :)

It looks very similar to my Typhoon optical one BB.Have you set it as a 3 button or 5 button mouse and have you got the options for each one set correctly?
Cant think how you could set the wheel do do as you describe but it may be something as silly as that  :-*

If you end up looking for a new mouse, BB, I can recommend the Kensington Optical Elite, which I have been using for a short while.

Is there any possibility that you could borrow someone elses mouse to see how it works on your computer Big Boss?  At least it would point you in the right direction.

Just call me George W. Bush. I still think violence is the answer ;D ;D

I think you've exhausted all of the software related problems David. Perhaps it's time for Big_Boss to get out his screwdriver and have a poke about inside the mouse? (With the proviso that if it never works again :o, it's not our fault ;) ;D)

Hmm dont really fancy the "screwdriver" aspect of it myself. The violence part doesnt sound that bad  :) not that im that type of person. Ive had the moue for ages though so i think it might be past it. I dont want to get a new one though as im a big gamer and i love the mouse  ;)

The 1330 is a combo mouse so comes with the little green plug for usb, have you tried connecting it direct to usb aswell as ps2?
I know MS opticals have a problem that is solved when connected int he USB instead, plus theres always a possibilty that the ps2 port is buggered, this would prove it for you.
