Title: Firefox 3 Update
Post by: Delgado on July 22, 2008, 08:28
Has anyone noticed that since the recent update of Firefox 3, the browser is not as stable as before?

When I first installed Firefox 3 it was perfect, not a problem anywhere, but since updating, it now sometimes dosent load a page properly or the page just stays blank. After refreshing the page appears. This is beginning to annoy me!

Can't say I use it enough to notice, as I primarily use SeaMonkey, but I have had the occasional blank page with that too.

Yes, I've noticed this too.  Facebook and UKCampsite struggle to load at times and it has only been since the update.  I usually have ALL automatic updating disabled on my computer, but I must have overlooked Firefox when I installed 3.0.  Teach me to be more careful in future.

Basically, it's the Firefox engine, with a different body, DG.  The latest version seems to be spot on, and runs significantly faster than the last one.  One thing some might find useful is that it doesn't auto-update, but checks periodically, and then asks if you want to update if one is available.  Also, many (but not all) Firefox add-ons work on SeaMonkey.  One thing I would say is, the default theme is horrid, but Modern is also pre-installed, is much nicer, and is available simply by clicking View > Apply Theme.  It's also much quicker at starting up than any version of Firefox I have used.

Thanks, Simon.  I can live with it for the moment as It's only those two sites I'm having problems with, but if I find it becomes annoying I might well roll back.   :)

If anyone has any addons they can't install because they haven't been updated yet, ask me and I'll edit the version stamp to be installable on FF3.

One thing I would say is, the default theme is horrid, but Modern is also pre-installed, is much nicer, and is available simply by clicking View > Apply Theme.  It's also much quicker at starting up than any version of Firefox I have used.

Yeah, I had no problems with the FF2 skin, but when i moved up to FF3 the first addon to be installled was a new theme. Afterwards, I disabled the "awesome" bar.

Me too, Dave.  I got the impression Chorley Dave might have been stuck.  :)
