That's a shame, Blakey won't have anyone to hate any more. :(
-
Sad news, but of the era. I preferred Love Thy Neighbour, which of course, we're not allowed to see any more. ::)
-
Very sad news we watch them over and over,Reg was a very talented guy, pianist, comic and one of the old school..R.I.P Reg :rip: A nice guy
-
What a shame :( . As a child, I remember rushing to finish my Sunday evening bath so I could be ready in time to watch On The Buses. Stan, Blakey and Jack were always a treat.
-
Have them on DVD Simon but it hasnt survived "Time" think I only watched one episode and got bored
-
I think the same could be said of many sit-coms of the time, David.
-
Except Dad's Army and Porridge. :)
-
Open All Hours, Fawlty Towers...
-
I'm spotting a trend here...
-
Apart from two actors appearing in two of the series, which trend were you thinking about?
-
The four we mentioned were all BBC comedies.
-
I must be the only one in the universe who found Faulty Towers..boring..I also think John Cleese is so over rated I just dint find him funny.
Barker yes.huge talent
Dads Army cast all very good and its survived
Porridge still funny.
But Faulty ? no
Mind you I think David Jason is a bit of a one trick pony and he always seems to play himself and in most of the things he has been in there is always elements of Del boy.
I actually think John Thaw was a much more versatile actor who could take on new roles and make them believable

Is there another broadcaster these days then, Simon. I must try re-tuning my TV. ;)

Agreed.

For me, Thaw will always be Jack Regan. I never saw any of the Morse programmes when they were originally broadcast, choosing to read the books first. Then they slipped my mind until a few months ago when I saw a boxed collection available in a remaindered book store for just £10! I finished reading them all last week and decided to watch one of the Morse repeats on ITV3 (or ITV4). What a disappointment! Thaw didn't portray Morse in any way like I imagined him from the books. The script was formulaic and predictable, quite unlike any of Colin Dexter's original plots.
I liked John Thaw in Goodnight, Mr Tom, though.

I often watch Channel 4 too. I guess that makes it four channels worth watching: BBC1, BBC2, BBC4 and C4.
Sorry for drifting so far off-topic

I agree John Thaw in Goodnight Mr Tom overcame the ropey accent and really made this.I have it on DVD and watch it every now and again. He played Morse really well, although I have not read the books I understand the character of Morse was a drunkard and a womaniser but I did enjoy the series.I was a fan of Cavenah though I thought this was played well. With Morse I believe the Tv people changed the format to fit into a more acceptable TV role although I have seen interviews with Colin Dexter he did not complain

I saw Jack (Bob Grant) in a west end play back in the early '70's and he was an extremely talented actor.

I would have to add News 24 and the History Channel.
