Title: Broadband tops 'must-have' list
Post by: Clive on December 18, 2008, 23:04
With people looking to save money in these times of economic turmoil, many are cutting unnecessary items and services from their budget.

However, 57 per cent of Brits would refuse to lose their broadband connection, according to a survey of 1,684 adults by BT.

Broadband was at the top of the 'must-have' list, followed by fresh fruit and veg, mobile telephones, home telephones and chocolate.

Personal finance expert and TV presenter Alvin Hall, said: "This attachment to communications is less absurd than it might initially seem. Clearly fresh fruit and vegetables should be top of everyone's must-have list, but staying connected offers a vital lifeline in this 24/7 society we all now live in."

"Broadband offers access to myriad ways of saving money – searching for the cheapest deal, selling unwanted goods on online auctions, downloading discount vouchers, entering competitions and even taking part in surveys like this one in return for cash," Hall continued.

Seventy-one per cent of the people surveyed said they were tightening their belts and 29 per cent were 'desperately' or 'very' worried about the possibility of recession.

A good curry masala would be at the top of my list!  No fruit, though - just vegetables.  I cannot abide fresh fruit  :ack: .
