There seem to be more people who think teaching children to use Linux is a good thing.
Something I really want to stress out: if we stop teaching the children to use windows, we give them the great present of choice.
So go over there and give them your support!
"Qimo is a desktop operating system designed for kids. Based on the open source Ubuntu Linux desktop, Qimo comes pre-installed with educational games for children aged 3 and up.
Qimo's interface has been designed to be intuitive and easy to use, providing large icons for all installed games, so that even the youngest users have no trouble selecting the activity they want."
Then maybe you don't need to say anything to your kids about ditching windows :-)

That should suit me! ;D

If there was one version of Linux that had support for for most things I would try it, but that would never happen, how many different versions of Linux are there? 20-30?
-
yes there are quite a few but you will find that quite a lot of them are based on Debian (e.g. Ubuntu, Linux mint...) or others (such as Red Hat).
I'd say the Ubuntu has the support that is needed for a large distribution and can basically support most things now, so I say it has happened. Of course people will always want to use different software to do things and so there will never be a unified front, but that's no different to windows.

I think that's one of the things which makes it so unfathomable, and puts people off. Whatever version you use, there will always be another version which does something better, or works more efficiently on your system. How the heck are you supposed to find your ideal version?

just get ubuntu... or fedora. the rest of for linux geeks :-D

I know I keep saying it, but one day, I will try Ubuntu on a proper machine. :)

It's more fun on an improper machine, they tell me. :)
