I can't quibble with the survey (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/6031772/Back-To-The-Future-voted-ultimate-time-travel-movie.html) which recognised Back To The Future as the 'ultimate time travel movie'.
I am surprised that Star Trek: First Contact did not even make it into the top ten.
Edit:
PS I'm also surprised Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home wasn't recognised, either. And there's no mention of Frequency, starring Dennis Quaid.

Donnie Darko wasn't really a time machine movie. It was just a brainteaser. I also don't think people consider startrek to be serious movies. They're mostly just looked at as junk space opera.
I think Planet of the apes should be closer to the top. Charlton heston deserves better then that. Most of the newer ones got really poor ratings from the critics. I didn't even watch the butterfly effect and deja vu. The Time Machine was the only real new movie I liked. I still pull it out to watch from time to time.

Yes, I enjoyed Planet of the Apes too. I first saw it in a New York cinema in 1968 - several months before it was released over here. But let us not forget the incomperable 2001 Space Odyssey. which I saw just a few days later. Surly that should rightfully be top of the heap? 8-)

What about Doctor Who and the Daleks? :)x

:haha: Surprisngly enough, the particle physicists at Swansea University have carried out a lot of research on time travel and I've attended a number of fascinating talks on the subject by THIS GUY (http://pyweb.swan.ac.uk/~shore/cvme.html) who says how it can theoretically be done. Sadly it is not at all practical as too much energy would be required. More than is available in the entire Universe. ;D
