Title: Big Brother To Be Scrapped
Post by: GillE on August 26, 2009, 09:30
'Boring' Big Brother 'to be scrapped by Channel 4' after ratings disaster. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1209098/Big-Brother-scrapped-Channel-4-ratings-disaster.html#ixzz0PH9JMqi4)

Although C4 is contractually obliged to screen one final series, the next will be the last.

Whoopee!

It's not so much the programme itself that I don't like (I don't watch it) but all the attendant trivia which clogs up the media.

We just need to get rid of the soaps, X factor and its ilk, quiz shows with basic questions, anything with "celebrity" in the title and reality shows then we could possibly have some decent TV to watch.

Don't worry, it'll be replaced with something just as bad.  ;)

Years ago most of those contestants would have been safely locked up out of harm's way.  ;D

I believe so, David, somewhere in the region of £12K, but I don't know where I got that from.

Fantastic news.  Let's hope the next thing to go is Channel 4 itself!

Actually, I disagree there, Dave.  C4 have produced some good TV, and at the moment, seem to be the only ones making half decent comedies.  I'm thinking The IT Crowd, The Inbetweeners, Black Books, Green Wing, and of course, Father Ted, along with some good dramas such as The Sopranos (OK, so that was bought in), Shameless, er... well I did say some.  ;)

I'm very much with Simon on this.  Channel 4 provides some of the best news and documentaries around.  Its entertainment can be a bit eclectic but I also enjoy a lot of lifestyle programmes with the likes of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

I find some of the documentaries a little sensationalist (why do we need to see the insides of an elephant?), but there are some good ones too.  :)

That one passed me by, Simon  , but where else would you find programmes being made by the likes of John Pilger?
