A new computer aimed at people aged over 60 who are unfamiliar with PCs and the internet has been unveiled.
The simplified desktop - called SimplicITy - has just six buttons directing users to basic tasks such as e-mail and chat. The computer comes pre-loaded with 17 video tutorials from television presenter Valerie Singleton More than 6 million people over the age of 65 have never used the internet, according to government figures.

Why can't Valerie Singleton stick to attending WI meetings? People like her really p**s me off!

I actually think it's not a bad idea. If pensioners can do their shopping online, it will keep them off the streets!

And off the roads? And out of the supermarkets?

... bet she has her high tech stocks in order too...
I like the idea, but then again why dumb it down... it is actually not too far removed from the eeePC like desktop (the default one) which is aimed at kids. I guess the idea is the same, make computing easier. At my old church centre we had some ubuntu machines setup, for people who'd never used windows they didn't know any different - but liked the big INTERNET button... once on big BBC button, big EMAIL button and job done... 10 minutes later the older guys had found the big FREE PORN button I thought I'd hidden away.... :-D
