I have a piece of software called Galaxy Collider which works out how two colliding galaxies would end up.  All you have to do is to insert the mass and velocities and the software shows you a pretty picture.  The Milky Way and Andromeda parameters were naturally already in the database.  Surprise surprise!   ;D
