Title: BBC iPlayer breaks records again

The BBC has said that it received more than 120 million programme requests on its iPlayer TV catch-up service in January 2010, a huge increase on previous months.

The rise in the viewing figures was partly thanks to the poor weather, with many people staying indoors and some unable to make it into work.

The BBC also revealed that around one-fifth of the programme requests came from Virgin Media TV customers, who can access iPlayer through their TV sets.

It is the third month in a row that the BBC has announced record-breaking iPlayer viewer numbers, after the 100 million mark was broken in December 2009.

And in November 2009, the BBC said that the iPlayer received 88.2 million programme requests for the month.

However, the iPlayer faces increased competition in the TV-on-demand market with a new service, SeeSaw, having recently entered the fray.

but surely they just take iplayer streams?

well its all good for the bbc surely... though it must be a huge resource to have to manage, I wonder how much it is costing the bbc.

Actually, I wouldn't have thought an awful lot, comparatively.  Anyway, doesn't it cost the licence payer?  :dunno:

yeah true but surely at the cost of other services.

Turns out they are coming to play at the University of Calgary... just when I'm at home for easter, argh!

What do you expect from an astronomer, Clive. Sam's used to dealing in large numbers, it's far too complex for him to use a normal calendar.  :devil:
