My son has bought a new laptop its a Advent Intel(R)Celeron(R)CPU.
It has Windows 7 preinstalled.
He can connect to the internet but it says no internet access.
He has tried his 3G dongle and my Virgin wireless and has the same problem.
I have scoured the net for solutions but none work, we have tried disable/enable network card, system restore, all the internet settings are ok.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, when you say "He can connect to the internet but it says no internet access.", are you saying he can connect to the Network, but can't actually access the Internet? Is there a software firewall on the laptop, and if so, has this been set to allow network / internet access?
Have you tried connecting to a router with a network cable, to eliminate a wireless problem?
Can you access the router interface with the new laptop (so as to establish the network connection is OK)?

He has tried his 3G dongle and my Virgin wireless and has the same problem.
This sounds like it might be a software issue on the machine.
I'd suggest trying to see if you can connect to the router or not. You should get an ip address assigned if you do. Alas I can't remember what the GUI looks like in this case (but if you opened a command prompt and type ipconfig it should give you some info)...
How do you connect to the network? Wireless aswell?

He can connect to the network but its saying cant display page continually, no firewall issues, the wireless is ok as Im using it on mine and his dongle also works on mine.

It still sounds like a firewall issue to me, but someone with more expertise should be around later. What browser is being used, and has an alternative been tried?
-
I agree, it sounds like a firewall issue. If we've established that another machine can connect to the net and also use the dongle, then it has to be software, either security settings or drivers. First thing is to connect via cable, that will indicate which it is.

do you have anything like AVG installed or is it just the base windows firewall/antivirus (not sure what they call it on Windows 7)
-
Hi guys, just the basic windows security, he has only had it couple of weeks, everything was ok until the other day.
I have just spoken to him, he has restored all the original factory settings and its ok now.
Thanks all.
