Google "screwed up" by accidentally gathering private wireless data while taking pictures for its "Street View" mapping service, co-founder Sergey Brin said Wednesday.

Well, there's always going to be a certain amount of data collection, surely?

There was no reason for the Street View cars to be collecting any information, imo.

No, I agree, but to say it's illegal to collect any data at all, would be extremely limiting, wouldn't it?

I'm sure it allows for legitimate capture, but not from what was, effectively, war driving.
