My Plusnet connection has stopped working on my PC and comes back with the errrort message "cannot find IP address". There is nothing wrong with the router because the iPad is connecting without any problelm. Any idea what might be wrong?
-
Have you tried rebooting the PC?
-
firewall software at fault?
You could go to the command prompt and type ipconfig, that will tell you if you are connected to the router.
-
actually ipconfig /all
-
Thanks Sam. I'll try that on my next visit.
-
Assuming you're connecting wirelessly, Clive, the first thing to check would be using a cable to eliminate the wireless side.
-
I did that Rik and it remained the same. The iPad is wireless so I think the router is exonerated. I will be taking a look at it this afternoon.
-
Then use ipconfig /all and paste the results, Clive.
-
Visitors all afternoon so failed to visit the apartment. It will be tomorrow now.
-
OK.
-
as Rik said just put the results here.... and your bank details :-)
-
;D
-
:lol2: Yup, there was no connection at all and ipconfig / all would not stay on screen long enough for me to read. But I carried out a system restore and that has sorted it out. Perhaps it was a bad security update. :dunno:
-
Odd. Ipconfig should stay there till you close the window, Clive.
-
Ermm... actually, this is how to do it:-
To open a console window from the command prompt:
- Type: cmd
- Type: ipconfig /all
- Then post your bank details here.
Hope this works helps.

Ah! Thanks Rod. You are very knowledgable as usual. I'll try that on my next visit which will be Tuesday. 8-)
-
We'll put the kettle on. ;)
-
I'm sure just a nice hat would do, Rod. ;)
-
:lol2:
-
-
You can also redirect the output to a file from a command:
C:\Users\martin>ipconfig /all >ipconfig.txt
-
Good point.
-
Thanks for that! 8-)
-
And you can also specify a particular path and filename for the output, like so:
ipconfig /all >c:\myfolder\folder2\output.txt
Who said DOS was dead? ;)
-
no one, its just a bit behind a decent console.
