Title: Mozilla suspends auto-updates
Post by: Rik on September 15, 2010, 10:40
El Reg (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/09/15/moz_suspends_firefox_updates/) reports that:

Quote
Other stability bugs have caused Mozilla to suspend automatic updates to the latest full release version of Firefox while it investigates stability bugs. Normally users of the browser will be offered new releases between 24 to 48 hours after they come out, but this is not happening with Firefox 3.6.9 and Firefox 3.5.12, released last week on 7 September.

The releases are still available for manual download but reports of crashes, mostly on startup and on multiple platforms, have prompted Mozilla to hold off on a more widespread roll-out.

"We've limited updates to Firefox 3.6.9 and Firefox 3.5.12 at this time as we evaluate some early feedback which indicates that a subset of our user base may be finding the releases unstable," said Michael Shaver, Mozilla's head of engineering, told Computerworld.

The move is troublesome because Firefox 3.6.9 addresses 15 vulnerabilities, 10 of which Mozilla classifies as critical.

Not so good. :(

I'm sure they'll sort it.  I still wouldn't switch to IE.  :)

Me neither.

Nor I.  My browser has been hanging a lot lately.  I wonder if it will perform better once Mozilla has done its work.

Another reason why I NEVER use automatic updates for anything.

Someone else can be Guinea Pig, thank you very much!  ;D

 ;D

Last night's test has left me with a finger that feels like it spent the night in a vice. :(

I've got veins that trapped miners could escape through, but after last weeks procedure both of my hands look like they've been danced on by someone in running shoes.  At least they didn't try forcing a cannula into the tendon this time.

It's funny how often doctors make you feel worse yet tell you they're making you better.

You my sympathies, Rik and Rod.

I know how you feel, Rod, doctors are particularly bad at getting cannulas in. I prefer a nurse every time. Incidentally, legally they are only allowed three attempts, after which it becomes patient abuse.

Nurses make me feel better, doctors - other than my GP - tend to make me feel worse.

Thanks, Gill, I'm sure the bruising will wear off after a month or two. ;D

Really?  It's unusual for my left hand to be involved with abuse.
