Hi
I wonder if someone could advise. I brought my works laptop
home this weekend. It connects to my bt wireless network but neither
Ie8 or firefox will open. My desktop died a couple of months ago
right in the middle of the time bt were disabling their yahoo browser.
Hence, i was never able to upgrade my pc and their email said
i would not be able to connect to internet if i didnt upgrade!
I have been accessing the net through my ipod touch since but
need to buy a new desktop but now cant even get my laptop
to connect! Could this be linked to bt?
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks
Sian

Hi Sian,
To state the obvious, it sounds like you are not connected to the internet, but just to be certain, can you send or receive emails on the laptop?
-
Hi Simon
thanks for replying. It says i am connected to my bthomehub. Im not
sure about email as i cant get online. My works email is
on the laptop but i cant send or receive emails on that .

Hi Sian
Try turning the router off, or taking the laptop outside the house. Will the browsers open then? Are the browsers set to open a homepage?
-
It sounds like the laptop is connecting to the hub, but the hub isn't connecting to the Internet. Can you access the hub interface from the laptop? We'll need to know the make if the hub if you need help with that. If you can access the hub interface, the first thing to check is that the username and password for your ISP is correct. Come back to us when you've tried that.
-
Problem is, Simon, if Sian can't get a browser to open, connecting to the hub interface is next to impossible.
-
Oh, just another thought, are there any lights on the hub to show that it's connected to the Internet? If so, then the problem might be a firewall on the laptop.
-
I thought Sian meant that the browsers wouldn't connect, not that they wouldn't open at all. Can you clarify, Sian?
-
Hi both
i will try the suggestions. Thanks. The internet light is on
and it says there is good connection. I have just used my works
remote access link and have got in there and the browser works that
way. Not good fir long term use though as work restrict alot
of sites plus i need to be able to use browser on tbe new computer
that i am getting.
Thanks

Hi again
it is still not working. It says internet explorer cannot display
the webpage. This is when i try to open explorer. I can get on net
through my works remote access link and it opens there so
maybe it is work blocking me using net through my access.. Or maybe
bt since they scrapped yahoo browser?
Cheers

Check tools > options >home page in IE, Sian. If it has anything other than about:blank there, delete it.

Sian says the laptop is reporting connected, Baz. :(
