The 1960s Peter Cook and Dudley Moore sketch show was one of the many programmes where many of the episodes were lost due to the BBC's strangely appalling archival policies. Last month, however, audio recordings of 11 of the lost episodes were found at the home of NOBA fan Graham Webb, who had recorded them off the TV at the time of transmission, using a reel-to-reel tape recorder.

A fantastic find, but the show was a bit before my time. Now, if we were talking Derek and Clive...
-
I didn't think they were very entertaining. Now, Andy Pandy, The Woodentops and Bill & Ben, The Flowerpot Men were impressive.
-
Bill and Ben probably swore as much as Derek and Clive too! ;D
-
Oh, and what about Hector's House and Pogle's Wood? ;)
-
Hector's Wood was a bit insipid for my tastes. Now, Pogle's Wood... that was a different matter! Cutting edge stuff with Pog deep in the woods. Of course there were other classics such as Noggin the Nog too. Derek and Clive just couldn't compete with Watch With Mother.
Mind, I'd only be about 4 or 5 years old at the time :) .
-
Me too, and I missed it when I started going to school. :bawl:
-
I don't think I ever recovered from the trauma of my first day at school. It was horrible - I had been happy playing at home.
Mind, I think Watch With Mother started to lose its direction when Tales of the Riverbank made way for Mary, Mungo and Midge.

Me too, Gill.
-
Can't remember his name, but I clearly remember the headmaster literally carrying me into school, kicking and screaming, on my first day. It never got much better either. :(
-
There's a theme emerging here...
-
I hated school, and was mercilessly tormented because I was hopeless at sports, and was always the last one picked for the team. The only sport I was any good at was tennis, but it wasn't often an option. I couldn't even bloody swim, and still can't! ;D
-
Sounds like me, but I was no good at any sport - partly because, without glasses, I couldn't see a thing. When I left grammar school, they gave me a questionnaire about representing the old boys at sport. I suggested ballroom dancing and never heard from them again. ;D
-
Surely the 'sport' came after the dancing? If you were lucky!
-
It did, sometimes I was. ;)
-
I wasn't into sport either as the only options were rugby, rugby or rugby. The rugby pitch was 2 miles away and it was a miserable walk in the rain. We had a couple of lads who went on to play for Wales so the standards were far too high for a wimp like myself! ;D
-
We had rowing, athletics or football/cricket, Clive. I can't see a ball and I can't swim so I did athletics. Till I managed to putt the shot onto a teacher's foot, after which they let me do my own thing. ;D
-
;D
-
I blamed it on poor eyesight and asked if I could try the javelin next.
-
:)x
-
here I think the only option in the winter is hockey.
-
though there is bound to be some cross country skiing...
-
Cross country, that was the other thing I hated! :bawl:
-
Me too, especially as the showers generally weren't working, so you went home splattered in mud.
-
Our 'cross country' was all roads.
-
Our cross country route took us past a disused railway track which led to my home a few hundred yards away. My friends and I would volunteer for cross country runs, much to the horror of our PE teacher who hated accompanying us and preferred to stay inside the warm gym coaching badminton. So we would splash along the disused railway line, head to my home, and drink coffee all afternoon.
The plan backfired in the end. Knowing how keen we were for cross country running, the PE teacher kindly submitted our names for the county cross country championship. It was hell.
-
The adults always win in the end.

Similar thing happened to me, Gill, I took my usual shortcuts and found I was in the London team. As you say, it was hell. :)
