Title: AMD XP CPU's Retail boxed cooling probs...
Post by: ketamininja on May 03, 2003, 17:50
I've found with a lot of XP CPU's (especially 1800+, although they are now *ahem* out of date now) have heating problems with the supplied heatsink and fan.

I apply grease (see post about AMD don't like grease) and a bigger/better heatsink. Problem usually solved.

I've never been a fan (no pun intended  ::)) of the bundled heatsink and fan that comes with a CPU, nor the thermal pad that is usually on them too.

But, as I like tinkering with my PC  :o I always opt for something special, and lap the sink too.

There are a lot of very capable and cheap heatsinks available, and some very good cheap fans too for that matter.
