Sexual relations between ancient humans and their evolutionary cousins are critical for our modern immune systems, researchers report in Science journal.

Ancient humans and neanderthals were clearly compatible in reproductive terms otherwise the amalgam would not have been adaptive in evolutionary terms.  I mention this for the benefit of any Welsh people here.
