Title: Porn blocking: what the big four ISPs are actually doing
Post by: Simon on October 11, 2011, 21:07
There has been a lot of confusion and mis-reporting over how Britain's four biggest ISPs will implement blocks on adult content.

Here is what the four ISPs signed up to the new voluntary code of practice - BT, Virgin Media, Sky and TalkTalk - are actually doing to comply with the proposals.

It looks like much ado about nothing.

One thing I object to is the EPG on the Freeview box.  To get to the news channels one has to pass through Adult Filth, Babestation and other channels I would not wish my grandson to see.  Something should be done about it!

But surely those channels are not broadcasting while he's up and about?

I'm surprised you can't edit the list so that those channels don't appear.  You can with both my TV and PVR.

I expect Clive has conveniently mislaid the manual.   :o:

I'm not saying that they are broadcasting but the channel titles are still there.  :P I don't know if the porn channels can be hidden but it might be worth looking into.

You can usually create a Favourites list of channels, and I think on some Freeview boxes, channels can be hidden.

I've hidden them on my main EPG and instead of them appearing there I have them in a separate "Favourites" list.

Sh1t!  What am I saying.

  Mrs Whitehouse would have had something to say about them!  ;D  The problem is that I would like them removed from the main menu on all set-top boxes as I don't think it's right that young children should be exposed to explicit material.  What adults watch is entirely their own business.

Get a Sky box, Clive, they can be removed from the EPG on those.

I don't have any issues with the Sky menu because the adult channels are hidden away already.
