evenin' all
I've just ordered myself a laptop from Dell, it comes preloaded with a 15 month subscription to the above. My first reaction is to uninstall it and stick microsoft security essentials and zone alarm on instead. Anyone have any recent experience of McAfee ?
-
Having just glanced down a few threads in the pc security section i think i've found my answer already !
-
:-)
-
it works fine, but its a bit chunky
-
I tried it once, but like Sam said, it was quite 'clunky'.
-
Resource hog, dump it, Dave. :)
-
Thanks all

I'm getting it for "free" but i still think i'll ditch it and use MSE/Zona alarm instead.
-
See? They can't even give it away!
-
But still they try. ;D
-
Mr Dell definitely needs to have a word with mr mcafee ;)
-
;D

My Dell laptop and Acer netbook both came installed with McAfee but they were given their marching orders on first boot. Bloatware at its worst!

Clive did you find that you needed to use the mcafee removal tool after uninstalling to remove any stubborn bits of it ?
-
I was led to believe in the past that using dedicated removal tools was the best way, but maybe things have improved now, with later OSs?
-
I had a look around Simon and the concensus seems to be to use the normal windows uninstall option and then use the tool if required to mop up any stubborn files. Apparently just using the tool for a full uninstall is not recommended.
-
You could always use something like CCleaner for 'mopping up' afterwards. :)
-
Or re-install Windows.
-
I just used the Windows removal tool and experienced no difficulties at all. Both computers are running Windows 7.

Ta Clive, if it ever arrives i'll go with that. In my naivety i assumed it would be assembled in Ireland and shipped from there but the UPS tracking tells me my expensive laptop is currently in Shanghai :bawl:

Yes i've got that preloaded on my "important stuff" memory stick along with some decent AV/malware progs which is going straight on the lappy before i do anything  .

I agree, i want to do that already, why do they have to include so much cr@pware on these machines :dunno:
-
Yes, I agree, that's very frustrating when you get a new machine.
-
Especially a laptop.
-
Indeed. That's partly why I've built my own in the past. Not sure I'd do another, but you never know...
