Title: Multiple logon
Post by: Lona on June 10, 2003, 21:06
I just received this email from my isp and cannot understand it's meaning.  Is it possible someone has procured my details and using my connection illegally. >:(  I have been having a lot of problems with disconnections between 1am and 2pm. The email below was sent to me at 1:06am 10th June.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Your session on the OneTel Internet service has been interrupted.  This interruption is due to a simultaneous multiple logon connection.  This is a breach of clause 4.2 of our General Terms and Conditions. This clearly states that "Only one person is permitted to use your account at any one  time".

We would like to remind you that it is the responsibility of the account holder to refrain from disclosing his/her username and password to a third party.

Please note that each time a simultaneous multiple connection occurs, both users will be temporarily disconnected from their internet connection and could lead to a suspension of your service.

If you would  like to change your password, please visit our Virtual Customer Service Centre on http://customerservice.onetel.net.uk

The servers will still think your connected once you disconnect, so when you reconnect there are in a sense 2 of you (scary thought)  ;D So it's their error, get them to sort it like a real Scottish peep would!

When you got disconnected this morning Lona it said that you were still on messenger.
Maybe its not fully disconnecting somehow (is that possible anyone)so when you try to reconnect it thinks its a multiple logon  ???

Well because my connection is so unreliable I can be off the net for 30 mins and it will still say I'm logged into MSN. My brother uses the same line so only one of us is on at one time. He is normally logged on when I look which is strange since he logged off before I connected Weird but that's what the internet it.

I had that with BTInternet Lona and they were lying through their teeth.  It's a good idea to change your password though just in case.  As Robotochan says, Messenger can say you are online for hours after you log off.

Well, I don't trust Messenger at all now.  Not after it was logging me on without even telling me, even after I specifically told it not to.   >:(

And this is from the boy that says I spam  :) Anyway it probably is to do with the server side. Currently O2 is having a few probs with their service. Have a whole month free  :D so you should maybe speak to them after changing your password for a week or so about it.

It doesn't make any sense to me because, if I am still connected I would get an engaged signal from my modem when I tried to reconnect.  A modem cannot dial up 2 numbers simultaneously. I have had a bad day to-day and I can do without any more aggro.  BT and ISPs better get off my case as I am slowly turning into the hulk here.  I think my skin is beginning to turn green already ;D ;D ;D
