Peter Sallis has died at the age of 96, his agents have announced.
The actor was best known for appearing in Last of the Summer Wine and was also famous as the voice of Wallace in Wallace and Gromit.
His agent confirmed he died peacefully with his family by his side.
Sallis played Norman "Cleggy" Clegg in Last of the Summer Wine from its first episode in 1973 until the series concluded in 2010.
He was the only actor to appear in all 295 episodes of the sitcom.

He was my favourite character in Last of the Summer Wine although I was not a fan of the series which seemed to star all the actors I most loathed such as Compo, Roper and that inspector from on the Buses.

No, it was never a series I took to either. I was amazed that it ran for so long.

Basically it was God's waiting room for actors who were well past it. Even Alfie Bass starred in it. :bawl:

Yes I love Dads Army as well, I was being somewhat facetious about the fact that they have all died since filming took place (barring Ian Lavender I think).

Dads Army was not my cup of tea although I vaguely liked John Le Mesurier, but mainly for what he had done previously - whatever that might have been. ;D
