Title: Scrolling problem
Post by: Clive on December 03, 2002, 10:22
This is a similar problem to my mouse freeze of a few weeks ago and only occurs when I am using the Internet.

After the machine has been left on for a while, when I scroll down using the mouse wheel, the screen goes black for a few seconds.  If I scroll in Word or Excel it's perfectly fine.  The only answer is a reboot, but does anyone know why this should happen?

Edit:  Once this problem manifests itself, it will happen every time I scroll until I reboot.

Does the entire screen go blank Clive, or just the part with IE on it?

It sounds very much like a screen driver problem to me, but why only in IE I don't know ???

Yes, the whole screen goes blank although I often experience a few coloured lines through the centre of it.  When it returns, the page  I was viewing sometimes has missing lines, but if I switch to another page everything returns to normal.  It has to be something to do with the video driver doesn't it?  But it's a puzzle as to why it only happens in Explorer.

Could the reason it only happens in IE be the fact that there is a mix of graphics and text and a less uniform layout than you have in excel or word  ???
Would this then point out to a problem with the graphics card in some way  ???
