Is there not a folder already somewhere Adept which stores the messages? I use Incredimail and have done a file and folder search and looked in each one that I thought may have my mail in but to no avail.
It must store then somewhere prior to exporting to a folder of your own surely ???
-
Sandra,
Incredimail does store mail in a folder, can't remember where at the mo, but will find out for you when I'm using my own PC. If I remember right, it saves them in its own format that I think is encrypted.
-
Thanks Bat,I thought it must be there somewhere but it doesnt have the same options as Adept mentioned for OE and the only export option is for the address book, although it can import from other mail progs ???
-
Sandra,
Incredimail stores the info in the following directory
Incredimail | Data | Identities | {xxx strange number xxx} | Address ..... or Messages
-
Well done Bat. I have found them but still have a slight problem ???
It has the folders, inbox etc,as .imm and .imh files. I have tried opening them with Incredimail and with Incredimail content. With content it says its not an incredimail content file and with Incredimail it wants to send it as an attachment to a mail recipient ::)
-
I'll have a bit of a dig around and see if I can get it to extract the files
-
ok Sandra
You can export the address book as a csv file, the icon I saw looked similar to an excel icon, so I'm not sure if it is a recognisable format.
As for messages themselves, you can save individual ones using "Save As" and change the extension to a txt format
I'll keep digging
-
Thanks Bat. I had saved my address book to a floppy some weeks back straight from Incredimail it opens in Excel I think as it was a spreadsheet when I checked it had saved it ok.Maybe I should try opening the mail ones in that too :-*
-
it opens in Excel I think as it was a spreadsheet when I checked it had saved it ok
It is probably a .csv file Sandra. Excel defaults to opening them for some reason ???
-
Excel opens both types in a fashion ::)
Its very jumbled and seems to be mainly the address its from and the subject but hasnt any content ???
-
Sandra,
All I can suggest for your emails, is to save them as text files, one by one. Incredimail doesn't seem to want to export them in any other way :-";"xx
-
I think it may be worth saving the folders as they are then posibly seeing if they will reimport into Incredimail at a later date if I have to wipe my drive at some future time.
Do you think that may work Bat?
I think its time to try the new splitting and merging feature, sorry if I screw up all the previous stuff :-*
-
Hey guys it works and its dead easy to do as well :)
Splitting the threads I mean :-*
-
I do believe it will work Sandra. I hope so as that is what I'm going to be doing very soon ::)
I'd copy the whole 'Identities' folder, better still, if you've got a CD-R, then copy the whole Incredimail installation, put it on your new HD and then reinstall Incredimail over the top of it. I've done that before and it worked just fine. I didn't lose a thing ..... only my marbles :'( ;)
-
Splitting hairs ... erm threads is all well and good.... but it confused me when I went to post something and couldn't find the posts ::) ::) ;)
-
Thats a good idea Bat as even with ADSL it takes a long time to get the extra bits downloaded each time I have had to lose Incredimail :)
-
There we go again ... gloating
I always keep a copy of anything I download, so I don't have to download stuff a second time
-
Well Bat with ADSL ( Triple Gloat ;D ;D ;D ) its not the speed of downloading thats the problem, its the length of time it takes deciding which content you want to download. As you know there is a big choice and its not all wanted, especially when you only have a limited capacity hard drive :-*
-
You're deliberately trying to confuse me Sandra >:D I'll have my gloat then shall I? My new HD is 80Gb and I'll be getting another one soon too :P
-
Well I may be getting a 40 gig one tomorrow :P :P :P
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush ;)
Anyway some girl must have told you before that size doesnt matter, its what you do with it :-*
-
But why just settle for half the cake when you can get the whole lot :P ;D
-
are you coming to join the "big boys" gang then sandra. as i mentioned before you can get a 120 Gb drive at maplins for £120 at the moment. if you need any help setting your prospective new drive up don't hesitate to ask ;) ;)
-
As I have only ever had a maximum of about 7 gig (currently down to 3.1 gig :( ) I will be happy with any size that will work with my lil ole PC.
I really wanted around 20 gig both for a better chance of working in my PC and as its coming near to Xmas was wanting to spend around £20 rather than the £55 it will cost me tomorrow.
I think my PC would die on the spot if I came within 3 feet of it with a 120 gig drive ;)
-
sorry sandra
i forgot your recent posts regarding your hd situation. i'm in deep trouble for spending "ONLY" £120 on a drive. the kids will have to go without food now for a week. ::)
-
That OK as they must be fat little buggers, troughing £120 worth of nosh a week ;D
catch
-
thats just so i can still afford my cigarettes.
;D

So thats why Simon was trying to get you to stuff your drive up,you must have told him you were a social leper like me,Lona,Whiskas,Rodders,Barra and the rest ;)
-
and mustapha presumably ;D ;D
-
You're all gonna live to regret it! Think what brilliant computers you could all have if you stopped smoking and put away the money each week instead!! I shall say no more! :-X ;D

but we'd be shaking too much to use the keyboard. also think of the tax us poor smokers generate for the government. if it wasnt for us we'd all be paying a whole lot more income tax. we deserve a pat on the back.
