Whenever I've done it I've used an external hard drive.  Copied all I wanted to move onto that, then from there to the new computer.  Time consuming, but the only real risk is forgetting something.  But then you've still got the old device if you need to go back to retrieve data.

I think my  best bet is to delete loads of stuff first!

I've never used it.  What are you wanting to transfer?  You could possibly use something like Macrium Reflect (or an alternative backup product) to clone the entire hard drive, but that doesn't come without it's risks, and you'd probably encounter issues with drivers.

One of the earliest known vacuum cleaners was so large that it had to be hauled from house to house via a horse-drawn carriage. Its giant hoses were popped through the windows of customers, and a gas-powered motor generated the suction that pulled the dirt and debris into a glass container where onlookers could gawk at the volume of filth coming from their neighbors’ homes.

I was wondering about the Windows transfer app?

Depends how much there is.  Would a large capacity USB stick or an external hard drive do the job?

I really need to transfer all my data before the old one succumbs to the  Coco Cola spillage.  What 's the easiest way to do it?
