Topic: Video card for 112 watt power supply

Hi my name is Deano I'm brand new (I hope no one bites me).
I have this older e-machine 500ix2 with a 112 power supply.
What I would like to get is a video card with a TV out for it.
Does anyone know of a video card that would work with such a low power supply ?  
I thought of increasing my power supply but I was told, by an e-machine tech, that it wouldn't fit in my tower.
I tried searching the internet but so far no one has any power supply specs. for video cards.

Hi Deano

I'm pretty sure any card would work.

Motherboards run at 12v and 5v levels. The power supply converts the incoming 112v or 230v into these levels to supply to the motherboard.

I'm sorry... I think I'm not saying what I mean.
(I do that a lot)... bad habit. :brick:
What I mean is.
I bought a eVGA GeForce4 MX440 64MB DDR PCI w/ TV Out (E145-1029 ) over the internet.
Hoping I could plug my computer into my TV... But on the box it said  minimum requirements is a 250 watt power supply.
I said to myself... "This is another fine mess you've gotten yourself into."
Can I still use this card ? or will it blow up my power supply and or card and put the finishing touchs to my great idea.

I have never seen a minimum power requirement specification on a graphics card  
They are pci bus powered which obviously takes its supply from the PSU but I wouldnt have thought that the pci bus could carry enough current to be able to supply a large enough amount that would overload your PSU

Don't worry Deano, your original post did make sense - it was just a bit early for me to be reading it


I don't think you can damage the PC. The worst that will happen is that the PC won't turn on or will be very unstable.

Wait and see what the others think before trying it though
