Under Windows XP, sometimes we experience some difficulty removing a certain file. This happens often with AVI files. Windows says that the file is in use by another program, which is not really the case.

Anyway, to remove it, close all other opened windows, and open the ?Task Manager? by pressing simultaneously  ?Ctrl ? Alt ? Del?. Open the section ?Processes?. Hilight ?explorer.exe» and click the « End Processes » button but don?t close that window.

Now, go to ?Command Prompt? window, (Start ? All programs ? Accessories ? Command Prompt), and lead it to the recalcitrant files? location, and type: ?DEL filename.avi (the file name), then hit  ?Enter?.

Go again to the window ?Task Manager? which you?ve left open. Scroll down ?File? in the menu bar, and select ?New Task? and type there: ?explorer.exe?, and click ?OK?.

Now, the recalcitrant file is deleted and no more there.
