Topic: ADSL Router

Tried all that Sandra and still just the same.
I click on ie and the only page I can get on the browser is the config screen for the router.

Just a thought but should I have got some software with the router as in drivers or whatever.

Did you definately set the router to factory settings by pressing the button on the router not just the reset inside the configuration bit of setup ?

If its any comsolation, it took me a couple of days to set mine up and I even had someone on line helping me and another friend came round and we couldnt sort it out.
Just before I went to bed that night I reset it to factory defaults entered the details as I posted earlier, still didnt work so I switched everything off and went to bed.
The following morning I decided to see if it would connect before I went back to the modem and it worked perfectly ever since  
It seems that although I had saved the router settings and rebooted it many times it juss needed the pc to be off as well as the router and when they were switched on together it sorted itself out  

I suppose theres always the possibilty that you have got a faulty router

No routers dont usually need drivers or software, unless theres an additional feature on it like a print server.
You can sometimes get software to update the firmware but that shouldnt be necessary at this stage.

Ok sorry to be a nuisance Sandra but I will just go thru everything I have done form opening the box and see if I missed owt.
Unplug speedtouch modem.
Plug router into power socket.
Plug adsl cable from wall socket to adsl slot.
Run ethernet cable from router to pc.
Opened page 10.0.0.2
Entered user name and password.
Saved and rebooted both router and pc.
All that happens is the pc tries to connect thru speedtouch.
Should I have done anything with windows at all.
I wont bother you again then.Thanks for your time.

This might be a bit basic, but have you set the router as your default connection in Internet Properties > Connections?

It doesnt show in internet connections Simon.

In IE set it to never dial a connection in Tools/Internet Options.
make sure that on the speedtouch modem it doesnt have anything like always connect using this device ticked.

Everything else is all you should have to do.
Dont worry about keeping posting as someone else may have the answer but I cant see whats stopping it as long as its set to the PPPoA thing and 0 and 38 and has the correct username and password in.

Have you tried sending and receiving mail or using something like msn messenger in case its connecting ok and its just an IE problem that we need to be sorting out

If you look on the Status page of the router and select LAN then the first figure should show the IP of the router ie 10.0.0.2 and below that there should be another box showing the number of Ethernet Devices connected and the IP addresses of each one, I assume that you only have a single pc connected at the moment so it should just show one device with the IP of 10.0.0.8, the same as in the LAN properties on your pc.

In the Tools/Options/Connections it should say use the same connection as IE and if you had ticked the never dial a connection in the IE Tools/Options/Connections it shouldnt be wanting to use the modem at all.
In the same settings have you gone into the LAN settings and ticked automatically detect settings ?
It shouldnt need to be ticked but it may help
