Broadband provider Wanadoo is to start offering customers speeds of up to 8Mbps.

From November, in Wanadoo's LLU (Local Loop Unbundled) areas, new customers will be able to receive an up to 8Mbps wireless broadband connection, plus free off-peak VoIP calls for six months, for £14.99 per month.

In non-LLU areas customers will be offered the same package but with an up to 2Mbps connection and the promise of a free upgrade when up to 8Mbps speed becomes available.

Wanadoo will be offering its service using shared unbundling, which means customers will retain their existing main line telephone provider.

The provider has trialled the service in Leeds and Bristol with around 500 customers.

The service will first be rolled out around 150 exchanges across Leeds, London, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham. Wanadoo said it intends to have more than 500 exchanges unbundled (covering approximately 40 per cent of the UK population) within the next 12 months.
