Boot sector trouble
« on: October 21, 2005, 10:08 »
Hey everyone.  I decided at the beginning of the new uni term to wipe my computer- just a bit of house keeping.  After formatting through winxp setup the computer restarted and usually goes into the shell of windows where the rest of it is installed.  It gets stuck though where it loads from MBR.  It finds it but then returns the message boot failure from previous device.  I have tried fixboot and fixmbr in the recovery console with no joy.  Any suggestions? Thanks! :D

Before you formatted did you select the delete partition option, then create a new one to install XP on ?
I usually find by doing it that way theres no possibility of it getting confused and thinking its having a second OS installed and seems to cause less problems.
