The 100 greatest rock guitarists

<< < (3/4) > >>

Sandra:
Just had another read through that list and noticed that Dave Edmunds is missing.

I never thought he was that special until he made Sabre Dance with Love Sculpture.

Thats one of my favourite instrumentals of all time and he played it brilliantly.

Love Sculpture only had Dave Edmunds on guitar playing the lead and rythm.
They were a 3 piece with just a drummer and a bass guitarist in addition to him which makes him, in my opinion, a much better guitarist than he often gets credited with being.

Camstop:
This would be my top ten...

1   Jimmy Page
2   Jeff Beck
3   Garry Moore
4   Slash
5   Carlos Santana
6   Brian May
7   Rory Gallagher
8   Jimi Hendrix
9   George Harrison
10 Angus Young

There's some greats on that list like "Robert Fripp" but all i know about him is he's married to Toyah Willcox  :dunno:

Robert Fripp is a quite extraordinary technician, Cam.  If you ever get the opportunity to hear a King Crimson track entitled Moto Perpetuo, you'll realise exactly what I mean.  It's a fast, complex, piece which you'd normally expect to play using thumb and three fingers.  Fripp plays it with a plectrum.

Around 30 years ago, a new guitar and me were spending the weekend at the house of Fripp's adopted mother (don't ask!), when he walked in to the room, spotted the guitar which I was now trying unsuccessfully to hide beneath my chair, and asked me to play him something.  I burbled something about really being a percussionist, whereupon he asked if I'd like to hear him play.  I thought quickly, chose the only acoustic KC track I could remember and he played it flawlessly.  Nice bloke.

Any road up, I really wouldn't mind being able to bash out a tune with the same degree of skill as any one of this bunch:

Jimi Hendrix
Rory Gallagher
Joe Walsh
Robin Trower
Phil Manzanera
Larry Carlton
John Mclaughlin
Al DiMeola
Ry Cooder
Eric Johnson
