--- Quote from: mistybear on August 03, 2008, 10:49 ---I'd forgotten about those movies, I was thinking more along the lines of South Pacific, Oklahoma, Showboat and such. :ack: Having to sit through Mary Poppins and My fair Lady when I was a kid, and listening to those others, turned me off musicals.
One I did really like, which I had forgotten about, is Cabaret. Loved it.
--- End quote ---
All those old musicals were dreadful and used to turn me off too. Cabaret was the watershed for me and most subsequent musicals have been well worth watching. Sweeney Todd is very good although I have yet to see the Depp version.
Lona:
All my friends who have gone to see Mamia Mia says it's wonderful.
I'm not great on Musicals, although I have to say my favourite was Grease.
I can't comment on Mamia Mia as I haven't seen it but I really don't fancy it.
GillE:
Is it just the popularity of Mama Mia or is the current position of Abba's Gold compilation atop the LP charts an indictment of the current state of pop music?
Simon:
Probably both. Today's pop music is utter rubbish, for the most part.
